Voting Question: i really need help with this ?

I’m nobody! Who are you? I'm nobody! Who are you?A Are you nobody, too? A Then there's a pair of us - don't tell!B They'd banish us, you know!C How dreary to be somebody!D How public like a frogE To tell one's name the livelong dayF To an admiring bog! E -Emily Dickinson •I’m nobody! Who are you? : I am me. Who are you? •Are you nobody, too? : Are you like me too? •Then there’s a pair of us – don’t tell! : Then we’re same – keep it a secret! •They’d banish us, you know! : Were excluded, they would make us even more excluded! •How dreary to be somebody! : How scary it would be to be someone! •How public like a frog : to have publicity like a frog •To tell one’s name the Livelong day: to have someone know your name everywhere •To an admiring bog! : To someone who is needy! This poem is pretty straight forward in what it means. I think that she is writing a Who Am I? poem. I believe she was saying that because of what she does she would be famous and she did not want that, that she doesn’t want anyone to look at her differently because of her poetry, if someone was like her in one way or another then not to say anything, when you look a frog they usually are in a museum or zoo or in a river so that would be public, and everywhere you went someone would know your name and point out who you were. Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830 to Edward and Emily (Norcross) Dickinson, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She was the second child of three. She was very social. One friendship was important to her as she became a poet as a teenager. Benjamin Franklin Newton worked for her dad at the law office. He helped her gain interest in literary and was the first to point out her talent and encouraged her to continue writing. He married and moved away to Amherst and stayed in touch with Emily through letters. He died in 1853 at age thirty-two. Emily had a rough life. Her nephew, Gilbert died in 1883; it was a huge loss for Emily. He was only eight years old. Emily’s social life was crashing. As she got older she became aware of the gap more and more between her family and herself. Intelligence and religions were differences between are what separated them. She liked privacy and kept a lot private. When she wanted publicity was in 1862 when she wrote to the famous Thomas Wentworth Higginson a response to his “Advice to a your Contributor” of the April 1862 Atlantic Monthly. During her life she only published seven poems. Her close pal Susan became her sister-in-law and the only person Emily would read her poems to. Emily never cared about money or fame when she wrote. When Emily died she told her sister to burn every of her poems so her sister published every of her poems and then burned the originals. Emily died of kidney disease at age fifty-five on may 15, 1886. She and Walt Whitman are two of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century. They were different in many ways. Emily’s writing style was lyrical poems. Some of her poems are: • An altered look about the hills • An awful tempest mashed the air • As if some little arctic blossom • arrive slowly, Eden! • The daisy follows soft the sun • The gentian weaves her fringes • Going to heaven! • Heart, we will forget him! • I bring an unaccustomed wine • If I should die • I had a guinea golden • I have not told my garden yet • I never lost as much but twice • Morns like these we parted • The murmur of a bee • New feet within my garden go • The rose did caper on her cheek • Success is counted sweetest • These are the days when birds arrive back • What inn is this • Who robbed the wood Edward Edward is so dreamy He makes my thoughts go weary So handsome and brave He can keep The day Has money to pay Bella is his wife And Renesmee brightens his life Taylor Taylor, my sister Smart Sweet Beautiful One and only one. Voting Question: Best Graphic Design Program?

I was wondering which University out of these three has the best Graphic Design program ... - Northeastern U - Boston U - Syracuse U Others I am considering - Chapman College - Champlain College - Emmanuel College - Umass Amherst Any information or other suggestions of colleges that are strong in the Visual Arts Dept. would also be greatly appreciated. Those are good suggestions but after a lot of consideration I decided I would be better suited to go to a university rather than an art school. I like the idea of a tradition college experience more. I want to minor in advertising or marketing which wouldn't really be possible in an art school. I also am not completely positive I want to do design, so I would like to be able to change my major to something that's not in the art field.

Resolved Question: How is my situation of getting into a good college?

Because my GPA this quarter (first quarter, junior year) was a 2.72 and I have a 2.91 combined my first 2 years and I ALWAYS struggle in the first quarter of the year. I think my extra cirriculars are pretty good: *Part time Job: Deliver pizza's for local pizza place *Worked on Obama campaign: Phone banking, canvassing, and traveling to Pennsylvania *Sports editor of high school paper (and possibly editor in chief next year) *Beat writer for local paper for high school football, baseball, and basketball team *Been to 25 states and 10 countries by Age 17 *Proud young democrat *Proud Sports Broadcasting Camp attendee I think I could receive into any college I want to with those credentials. I just struggle in the first quarter for a few reasons 1. This year I've had the return of Anger management problems. 2. I'm an obsessive Yankees fan and the only quarter they really play in is the first. Most teachers accept that as an excuse for me. 3. I always have a difficult transition I absolutely refuse to go to communty college, West Conn., Southern Conn., Central Conn. or any college in Connecticut (except for maybe Hartford U or Uconn) cause I live there and I want to receive out. I want to go to one of the following colleges, after reading my story assess the situation with these colleges: *Emerson *Slippery Rock *Syracuse *Fordham *Penn State *Indiana U. *UMASS-Amherst I'll be in AP history next season. How 'bout a few others: *Boston College *Boston University *University of Michigan *American University *George Mason I have a 2.91! Not a 2.72...thats just ONE quarter. Plenty of time. Ahh, what do u know...you're a Mets fan. lol. Like I'm gonna take advice from a member of baseball's stupidest fan base (average IQ: 23)

Resolved Question: What are my chances at playing college soccer?

I'm a sophomore playing as a starting forward for my Jv high school soccer team. I trained with varsity in the preseason of both my freshman and sophomore year. I was told by my coach that i was not big enough to play varsity but that i had the skills and so in a few years would be playing varsity. Towards the end of sophomore preseason i injured my knee and so i am not playing jv soccer in the fall season of this year. I am coming back to play soccer in the winter for my high schools club team. I have been growing about two inches each year so hopefully i will play varsity my junior year. My question is, is it a realistic goal for me to play division 3 soccer in college possibly for a nescac team like williams, amherst, or trinity. I know that nescac teams look at academics as well as athletics. I am in advanced honors classes at my high school and have a 3.8 gpa in those classes so the academics shouldn't be my problem. Thanks for the help.

Resolved Question: can someone please help me this poem i am really bad at poetry i need to write a critical analysis.?

i just need some hints of how to do it. thnaks Dusk in the Harbour soft as a phantom drawn by heart`s dismay, the dusk appears and folds the harbour in brief twilight trance, embracing every wharf And boat and freight shed with its hazy gloam but just as if the coming night itself had flicked a switch, lights manifest themselves below the rim of this rough-scalloped bowl of mystery:from Amherst to the Riverhead and around its shoreline to the chain rock buoy, the beacons glow just like a swift relay of burning bushes caught up in a race: red and green and yellow, blue and gold, they string out Christmas for us every dark to dawn;and as a compensation for our headland storms and RDF at other times the aureole of evening now is given a second birth, more startling than the fiirst, and weaves its phosphorescent image back from blue-serge depths of water glazed by nights. i am not sure what the poem is about really and i need help well hints of how to start analyzing the poem thnaks

Resolved Question: What's something besides flowers you can order from afar for some you like?

I'm having problems with her local blossom store (I did an order and three calls later still hadn't resolved every issue they had... things they needed not on the online form, missing the vase type, missing a blossom type, etc) Would like to NOT substitute with a pizza or anything like that ;-) Wondering what else I could order to her door to let her know I'm thinking of her? (Less then 100$ would be ideal) Something I could order for tomorrow would be great, by Monday at latest. I thought about one of those singing telegrams, but I'm not sure if any are in here area (Massachusets about 15 miles away from Amherst) Thanks for the advice on just shopping at normal stores for like stuffed animals and such, and then paying for next day... really does open up what I could send. The one down side is, I'd have to send my possess note, or do store gift departments mail notes with gifts that are mail ordered directly to the recipient?

Resolved Question: How much will this affect my shots of getting into colleges I want. ?

I am now a Junior in High School, This year I have a 3.7 GPA. I realized the importance of my education and my future just recently which is pretty bad. Last year i got a 3.1 which isn't half bad, but wasn't the to the best of my ability. But when I was a freshman, I failed a world language class,Latin. and that REALLY killed my GPA. Ive gotten good scores on my SAT practices, my best was a 1750. My GPA if I stay on pace im gonna end with a 3.0 pretty much at the end of this year. Im not applying to any Ivy League schools or anything like that but I am very Interested in Penn State and Indiana University. Also UMass Amherst. I have some good extra curriculars and I am a Minority. Do you think I still have a shot at getting into these schools???????????

Resolved Question: Is there anyway you can get your college application process free when parent won't pay for it?

i have no job. i've been looking and continue to do so. i do it in person actually. places aren't really hiring around here so it's nearly impossible to receive a job around here. if i did have a job i'd pay for it. i asked my mom politely if she could please pay for the college i just applied to umass amherst when she got the chance to. she had a fit saying she don't have the money to be paying for every these college applications when she does. she works at td bank north making $11 an hour and she just started a few weeks ago. oh and i only applied to 3 colleges so far and she only paid for one or so she says but that college has yet to send me an acceptance or decline letter. So I was wondering if there is anyway a person who's parent won't pay for the application fee could do it free of charge? Oh and don't even mention asking my dad havn't seen/talked him since 5th grade he abused me.

Resolved Question: Help my moms driving me crazy <.<?

ok so im 18 and i'll be 19 next month. i am stuck living with her unfortunately. i should be in college now and regret not applying last year but was afraid of money being a problem but it isn't anymore. ok so she treats me like im 12 and i hate it. she also treats me like crap. she tries and tells me i have a bed time. i'm a silent person and don't make much noise and as long as im not harming anybody i don't look why it matters what time i go to bed. for example i went to bed at 8pm last night and just woke up and made iced tea. [there's nothing here to drink except iced tea mix or milk and i don't do dairy except cheese & ice cream] she yelled at me for waking my 14 year old sister up. well my sister was already up before i was. this past saturday i told my mom it was my friends birthday party that i been telling her i was going to go to for weeks and that day she told me i could go and when she woke up from her nap she said i couldn't go because well she didn't even give a reason she just said i couldn't go. oh and yesterday i was suppose to go hangout with my pal at her dorm. i told my mom days in advance and she told me i could go untill that morning. oh and another thing that made me mad was i politely asked her yesterday if she could please send a college application check to the college umass amherst i just applied for and she said she don't have the money for these college checks when she only sent one [so she says she did anyways but i have yet to receive an acceptance or decline letter from university southern maine yet] and she does have the money because she works at td bank north making $11 a hour and she jsut started working there a few weeks ago. i mean i would pay for it but i don't have a job but have been trying to find a job and am continuing to do so. it seems like she don't even care about my eduacation [sp] like i do. yes i do help around the home. no i don't ask for stuff every the time so i don't look why asking to pay for the college application fee is a big deal when it's only like $40-$50. i respect her even when she doesn't respect me i just keep my mouth close. oh and i don't have a car so i can't just leave. trust me if i had a car i'd pack my stuff and leave because that's what i really wanna do but i have no place to go unfortunately. oh and none of my friends have cars either because they are every 14-19 and the ones able to have licenses have licenses and no car just like me. Oh and she gets mad if i eat past 8pm at night even if i'm hungry. oh and another time i walked to look my pal down the road and she didn't want me to so she yelled, called me names, and threatened to cal lthe cops on me but i went anyways. [im no longer friends with this person because they decided to abandon their friends and be every over their boyfriend and talk behind every her friends backs etc....] oh and i have to share a room with my sister because i have no room so anyways my mom yells at me when the room is a mess and it's not even my fault my sisters stuff is every over the place. i don't even touch her stuff but she does. [it was my old room but i moved in with aunt & uncle in arizona then moved back cause of an abusive situation and she had my old room] there's alot of other examples but these are just a few of them. i don't feel like typing every single thing so i just wish you receive the point by these examples. i am independent that;s why im trying really difficult to receive a job which is difficult when you live in maine especially in the middle of nowheres maine and no i am not exaggerating <.< i mean there's a big town 30 mins away that i went to and applied for jobs in person a bunch of times throughout the year and i continue to do so but no luck. so don't even say that i don't try because i do. oh and before anyone mentions anything about my dad he abused me havn't seen/talk him since 5th grade so just don't mention him.

Voting Question: My SAT score is a 2360 (1560)... is it worth retaking the exam?

I am planning on applying to very competitive liberal arts colleges in the US, such as Amherst, Wesleyan, Haverford, Swarthmore, etc., as well as possibly Cornell U. My GPA will probably be around 4.2-ish when I apply to college, and I have various extacurriculars. This was my first SAT, and I'm a junior, so I still have plenty of time. I scored: math 800 verbal 760 writing 800 -- essay subscore = 9, so my totals are 2360 out of 2400 and 1560 out of 1600. I know these are good scores, but is it worth retaking? There is another SAT on Saturday, and I've already paid for it, so I feel like I should just go and look how I do. However, that would be REALLY boring, and I haven't studied since my last exam, so I don't know if I'll do any better. Is it worth even retaking? Would a different score make a difference at every? Opinions from people who know a bit about college admissions would be very appreciated. Thanks!

Open Question: What are my chances of admission at the following schools? ?

What are my chances of admission at the following schools? I am high school sophomore. I currently have a weighted 96 GPA (roughly a 4.0, according to Princeton Review), am enrolled, on average, in 2 or 3 Pre AP classes a year, have a great grasp (I wouldn't say fluent, but by the end of the end of high school I will be) in Spanish and French (as well as, of course, my native English), have won numerous Journalism awards, am involved in UIL Academic Team, Newspaper, Debate and Speech, FCS (Fellowship of Christian Students), Spanish Club, French Club (I'm on the French Club Social Committee), Student Council, and the Eco Club. I have been published in my city's newspaper as well as my school's and hold an internship with my suburb's local paper. I volunteer at the local library, zoo (this summer alone I volunteered 118 hours), and history museums. My volunteer hours as of now are roughly 250-300. Since I am not old enough to hold a real job, I also grade papers for a second grade teacher (I don't know what good this will do on my application, but...) Next summer I am planning on spending 5 weeks at Georgetown University or SMU taking classes so I can receive college credit (and a real look at college life), taking a required computer class with my school so I can open up more room for classes I want to take as a junior, such as Music History and Theory of Knowledge. Also, I will be taking Spanish, Latin, and French classes at a local university. I will be taking a tour with my parents of East Coast and Northeast colleges and univesities I'm interested in, interviewing, touring the campuses, etc. Lastly, I will be studying abroad, probably to Italy, the summer between my Junior and Senior years. The schools I am interested in are (I organized them neatly)... *The University of Texas at Austin *The University of Arizona *The University of Georgia *Auburn University *LSU *Tulane *Emory *SMU *UCLA *The University of Miami *USC *University of Virginia *NYU *Dartmouth (my first choice) *Georgetown *Brown University *Stanford *Vanderbilt *Cornell *Amherst *Williams *Middlebury *Bowdoin *Vassar *Haverford Any tips, advice, criticisms, and thoughts you have are much appreciated. Thanks!

Open Question: Does anybody have any advice on beginning, and running a horse farm? 10 points!?

Please answer only if you intend to answer respectfully, thank you. When I'm older, I dream of running a tiny horse farm. By tiny, I mean below 20 horses. After I've gone through high school, I want to go UVM or UMass Amherst and receive a degree in business. I might want to receive an additional degree in equine sciences, agricultural sciences, or natural resource management. Anyways, after college I want to buy a property up in Maine, probably 30 acres, or more. Land is relatively inexpensive there in most areas, at least in comparison to the prices close where I live. I'd like to have about 6, or 7 horses of my possess as well as boarding 4 or 5 horses. The horses of my possess would most likely be used for lessons as well. (A recent answerer said that for every stall you fill with a horse of your possess, you are losing that money in boarding. In contrast to that comment, if your possess horse is used for lessons, about 25 days a month depending on the circumstances, they can earn as much, if not more as the boarded horse! Just a note) . Anyways, I'd also like to have a tiny orchard and/or pumpkin patch to bring in some additional income to the farm. Anyways, what are some tips or advice or beginning a horse farm? Everything you know of is welcome! Any tips/advice on running a farm is also welcome and appreciated! Thanks everybody!

Resolved Question: Do I really have that bad of chances of getting in to these colleges?

I'm a high school junior with a 3.6 GPA and I haven't taken SATs yet, but I took a practice SAT (not to be confused with the PSAT) and I got a 1500. I regularly participate in community service, am a 3-season athlete and participate in the high school advanced photography, Television broadcasting and flute ensemble. I'm really sorry if this sounds like boasting- that is not my intention-- I am just trying to stress the fact that I strive to be a well-rounded student and further explain the sticky situation I am in right now. My guidance counselor uses the workspaceK12 program for college search, and she put in my major (business-marketing) and area I want the college to be in (New England and NY) and the program compiled a list of about 60 college matches. Now, this is the confusing part for me-- many state colleges and... well, frankly lots of unknowns appeared on the list, and only a handful of "good" colleges appeared. Inevitably, I was disappointed and heartbroken. I don't mean to sound ignorant or disrespectful by any means, I just thought that from every my difficult work and well-rounded nature, it would have placed me in the consideration of some better schools. Through the list of schools, my guidance counselor has told me that Babson, Boston College, Boston University, UMASS Amherst, and New York University among some others would be very big reaches for me. She told me that those schools expect a 4.0 or higher GPA and extremely impressive SAT scores to receive in. Now, I asked her these questions: --"Won't they take into consideration that I am taking every honors and AP classes?" --"Won't they take into consideration that I participate in sports, community service, and clubs?" --"Won't they take into consideration that I've worked my #$!@ off for every this time?" She grimaced and told me that these schools EXPECT these elements. She said "well these schools -expect- harder classes, and extracirriculars anyway," So it took me by a big surprise when I heard every of this, my cousins and family friends have gone to BU and UMASS, within the past 5 years, and they are similar difficult workers to myself, and to my knowledge, those schools did not expect a 4.0 GPA from their applicants. Quite frankly, it scares me- I know that the competition for college is increasing rapidly, and I know that my grades are not quite suited for ivy leagues, but I WOULD have expected that I would have at least decent chances into getting into UMASS Amherst and Boston University. Am I wrong? Are my views on these schools outdated? Also, my guidance counselor told me that Boston University and UMASS Amherst want a 4.0 GPA. However, I logged onto the princetonreview.com and looked in 2008 college admissions books and I searched for UMASS and BU. The average GPA for UMASS says 3.48 and for BU 3.45. My question is- who is right? Princeton review or the program my guidance counselor is using? Is UMASS, BU, and BC that difficult of a reach for me? Should I even consider in applying or visiting these schools? Also, (sorry I know this is really long) would Ithaca, Syracuse, and Quinnipiac University be reaches or fits for me?

Resolved Question: What are my chances of admission?

SAFETY *The University of Texas at Austin *The University of Arizona *The University of George *Auburn University *LSU GOOD MATCH *Tulane *Emory *SMU *UCLA *The University of Miami *USC *University of Virginia *NYU REACH *Dartmouth (my first choice) *Georgetown *Brown University *Stanford *Vanderbilt *Cornell *Amherst *Williams *Middlebury *Bowdoin *Vassar *Haverford Any tips, advice, criticisms, and thoughts you have are much appreciated. Thanks!

Voting Question: Can I get in to the following schools?

I am about to start college touring, and I have narrowed it down to the schools I really want to go to. Indiana University!- #1 Choice Seton Hall Rutgers University of South Carolina U Mass - Amherst Im also Considering the following High Point University Ohio State and Elon Now there is a bit of a problem, I have a Low GPA, its about a 3 weighted and a 3.2 weighted. When I was a Freshman I failed a World Language course. With out the "F" my GPA is a 3.3 and a weighted 3.55. It was a World Language class and I was a freshman, will colleges really hold that against me? I got a 1850 on my SAT's. I got a 27 on my ACT's. I was also a member of my schools radio club and Volunteered to tutor younger kids how to play baseball and was their assistant coach for the season. I was also a people to people student ambassador and I have extra college credit from eastern university. I was also a member of my schools varsity baseball team and Held an Internship with a local minor league baseball team over the summer I want to major in Sports Management Can I receive into theses schools?
